Recreation

The City of San Antonio has all the amenities one would expect to find in a major metropolitan area, but still has that “hometown” feel. A city that celebrates its cultural diversity, derived from a blend of Mexican, German, Native American, Irish and other cultures, one will inevitably notice San Antonio’s allure as tradition and history blend with modern services and progressive living.

San Antonio is home to four historic missions, which together with the legendary Alamo form the Mission Trail, a family-friendly attraction which links the 18th-century structures that served as the foundation for San Antonio.

The world-famous Riverwalk is located downtown along the San Antonio River and is lined with shops, hotels, bars, clubs and restaurants. It’s a perfect place to sip an iced tea or margarita, eat some enchiladas and take a guided tour of the downtown area on a river barge.

Once a year, the city comes together for a quintessentially San Antonio celebration called Fiesta. This 10-day event across the city includes music, food, arts, river and street parades and more.

The city is also home to the San Antonio Spurs, a pro basketball team that has won four NBA Championships in the past decade, and the minor league Missions baseball team, whose mascots include Henry the Puffy Taco. The San Antonio Silver Stars women’s pro basketball team and The Rampage pro hockey team also play their home games in San Antonio and thoroughbred and quarter-horse racing takes place at Retama Park.

With over 300 days of sunshine annually, San Antonio is becoming a golf destination. There are over 50 golf courses in the San Antonio area including courses designed by Greg Norman and Lee Trevino. The Valero Texas Open professional golf event is played annually in San Antonio and the Tournament Players Club golf resort is under development as well.

Art galleries line the city’s main streets and the lively area called Southtown, the official arts district, where once a month the city celebrates the First Friday Art Walk. San Antonio is also home to a nationally recognized symphony, Broadway shows, museums and international touring companies.

The San Antonio Zoo, SeaWorld and Fiesta Texas will keep the whole family enthralled and entertained.

Just a short drive from San Antonio is the Texas Hill Country with charming towns and cities offering numerous outdoor activities, river tubing, water parks, food, shopping, dining and remote getaways among the beautiful rolling terrain.
